Ägräs Distillery relocates to Seinäjoki’s historic Piiri district

After months of waiting, the craft distillery Ägräs is preparing to move its operations to the historic Piiri district in the Finnish city of Seinäjoki. In a newly constructed building shared with other local businesses, the brand will establish its new home and launch the projects, shaping its next chapter under new ownership.

As Hanna Isosomppi reports in Ilkka-Pohjalainen, the historic Piiri district will welcome Paviljonki, a new commercial building scheduled to open next June. Representing a private investment of €2.5 million and spanning 1,460 square metres, the project aims to boost local tourism and support regional entrepreneurs. Months ahead of its grand opening, the building has already secured three tenants, including Ägräs Distillery.

From Fiskars to Piiri

Ägräs Distillery, a craft spirits producer, is relocating from the village of Fiskars to the regional capital. It will share the new facility with a local food market and café, as well as an expanding veterinary clinic. This collaborative setting is designed to encourage entrepreneurs from diverse sectors to exchange creative ideas.

Ägräs’s new premises will cover 350 square metres and house a striking 4.5-metre-high still. In addition to its signature gin, aquavit, vodka, and long drinks, the brand plans to launch a new whisky and open a restaurant and visitor centre to champion Finnish distillery tourism.

A Place to Come Together

Designed to complement Axel Mörne’s 1920s architecture, the new development is expected to have a significant social and economic impact on the area by creating jobs and establishing a new focal point for tourism. Johannes Karhu, the project’s real estate manager, envisions the L-shaped building and its central courtyard becoming the beating heart of the district. The space will feature a summer stage and offers the potential to welcome even more artisan businesses in the future.

For Ägräs, this new location marks a major milestone: the highly anticipated unveiling of its grain whisky, which will coincide with the opening of the premises and a comprehensive brand refresh.
